The Leadership Model that built the last decade is now capping growth

Jan 12, 2026

We are in the most unknown territory of our lifetime and the leadership traits that got you here.... will not get you, your team or your business to the next level.

The world is changing faster than humans are evolving. And that level of uncertainty is real, disruptive and sometimes scary.  Technology is accelerating - fast. Expectations are multiplying from every angle. Internal and external scrutiny is relentless.

The leaders who keep relying on yesterday’s methods, models and trends are already falling behind ... most just don’t know it yet.

But there is hope, we may not evolve as fast as technology, however every leader CAN evolve and create opportunity by learning a new way to lead -  before it’s too late.

To succeed in 2026 you need to lead differently

The model that built the last decade is breaking this one

For the last 50 years, knowledge, output, efficiency, and control have been rewarded.

For the last decade, it doubled down to celebrate more hustle, faster growth, instant availability, constantly being ‘on’, and striving for the perception of perfection.

It’s no longer working.

These trends have half-killed leaders and businesses because they are unsustainable, which is why:

88% of working adults are ‘stressed’ and only 21% of employees globally are engaged at work

costing the global economy an estimated £350 billion a year in lost productivity (according to Gallup).

Leadership development must change

To fix the problem and to try to ‘keep up’, leaders have focused on performance management, resilience, time and stress management, confidence building and systems training, which has been effective but limiting.

The harder they’ve tried the worse it seems to get, especially for founders who are still embedded in the business.  The negative spiral then leaks into their health, family uit and the joy in life.

Leaders are as driven, motivated and capable as ever before, often more so.

BUT the beliefs, expectations and cultures they work within are as outdated as a Blackberry.

Peter Drucker famously said that

 “culture eats strategy for breakfast.”

What we’re seeing now is the next version of that truth:

Human capacity eats culture when leaders fail to lead energy, emotional load, bandwidth and relationships.

You can have a clear vision and the right strategy. You can even have the right culture on paper. BUT if leaders at the top are still operating and rewarded for performance and output-based leadership, rather than human-led leadership, the people and businesses will keep cracking due to the enormous divide between the two, until they  break.

Output-based leadership - where strength means endurance, value comes from output only, emotions are suppressed, relationships suffer and the person at the top remains the single point of dependency
Human-led leadership  - is about driving peak performance by focusing on the individual.  Placing people where they perform best, protecting and replenishing energy and capacity, and building relationships which are strong enough to hold pressure AND pace.  It’s about integrating personal identity, health, wealth and family units to drive business growth.

The next chapter is about personal identity, capacity, emotional intelligence, team dynamics, proactive succession planning and planned exits.

The results (performance, engagement, retention, and business valuation) will positively reflect it every single time.

The unseen cost of outdated leadership

This is not about soft skills, stress and burnout or  nice-to-have metrics, this is about bottom line. If you’re not focusing on human-led leadership to drive performance and future success, you’re putting an invisible ceiling on your growth, scale potential, and valuation metrics.

Founders, leaders, teams, clients, investors, potential buyers will all negatively affected.

Which drives your business?

Success in 2026 needs a new leadership strength

Full human-led leadership gives you a strategic advantage.

In 2026, strong leaders and therefore the strongest businesses will be able to:

  • Lead themselves first
  • Integrate work/life/health/family
  • Get results AND show emotions and empathy
  • Communicate openly, honestly and effectively
  • Perform under pressure without hardening into emotionless robots
  • Make brave decisions quickly
  • Attract, retain and develop the best people to elevate the business
  • Lead teams and individuals to perform at their peak

Microsoft example:

Satya Nadella, CEO, changed the trajectory of Microsoft by shifting the culture before anything else.

He publicly tied empathy, emotional intelligence, human connection and psychological safety to innovation and long-term performance , not as soft values but as competitive advantage.

Between  2014-2024, Microsoft’s market value grew from around $300bn to over $3 trillion.

Why this matters now more than ever

The margin for error is dramatically shrinking, and leaders are dealing with an increasing amount of constant change due to:

  • Economic uncertainty
  • AI and automation reshaping white-collar work
  • Multi-generational teams with wildly different values
  • Hybrid work blurring every boundary
  • Young children AND ageing parents
  • Health, energy, personal identity are all under strain

This makes it harder to be a leader than ever before.  There’s too much to do, think about, and be.  There are no additional hours in the day to be all things to all people and change is too fast to keep up with. Add this to outdated beliefs, systems and culture, means leadership feels impossible and results, people, lives and businesses are being significantly affected ... which will negatively impact generations.

The leaders who adapt will survive this era. The ones who don’t wont.

The Top Teir Leaders

I’m increasingly asked to partner with top tables and my focus is :

  • Strengthening the humans behind the business strategy
  • Developing the synergy between health, wealth and relationships
  • Spot leadership patterns before they become performance problems
  • Help leaders consiously think and act differently
  • Support leadership teams privately, honestly, and without personal risk

I sit at the table. I observe what others miss.  I share insights honestly and sometimes brutally.

I work with leaders as humans first, because that’s where the real leverage is and that’s where I create:

STRONGER PEOPLE, STRONGER BUSINESSES AND STRONGER LIVES.

A final word

If you want to grow your business, you have to be prepared to evolve how you lead (not just what you deliver).

If you’re clinging onto outdated models of leadership and definitions of success? Things are going to get very bumpy.

If you’re ready to step into the next era of leadership AND life, I’m excited for you!

I invite you to have a conversation and gain clarity about what’s next for you.
